As a chilly wind blew off the Bay, hundreds of people gathered at The Armory in San Francisco to see the sensational Erykah Badu. It was Valentine’s Day, and I arrived at The Armory while Thundercat was in mid-set, clad in all pink from head to toe. He was blowing minds with his intricate and […]

Kicking off another Re:Search Wednesday, Jordan Polovina started the party with a set incorporating mollifying cello playing, improvisational drum pad beats, and heavily lyrical bars accompanied by singing on the chorus. His experimental drum pad track showed off his comfortability creating beats on the fly. Jordan’s impressive Shady-esque bars flowed throughout the night as he […]

Opening the night, Jordan Polovina and Mikey Thunder brought the heat early on. Mikey came with a high-energy, bass heavy set that warmed up the venue nicely. Conjuring a freestyle session with Kruza Kid and Jordan, Mikey kept the beats coming while incorporating some live scratching to accompany the cypher. Kruza Kid really dropped some […]

Forget parking in my usual spot a block away from Stubb’s. Red River felt particularly crowded this past weekend – even by Austin standards. It seemed nearly every major spot had a line streaming down the sidewalk for entry, and Stubb’s was no exception. The reason can be summed up in one word: […]

Umphrey’s McGee landed in Kalamazoo on February 2nd and 3rd as frost and snow blanketed over the Michigan region. Frigid weather did not matter much to the band as they came armed with a fire in their hearts and ready to show love for the Midwest. This became obvious throughout the weekend as the band delved deep […]

Returned to the states from another country only to discover that our favorite new festival, Elements Lakewood, put out a absolute scorcher of a lineup. Yes. BangOn! is bringing the party back to Lakewood, PA with a flaming hot lineup of house and underground bass music. With tech masters by the likes of Claude Vonstroke, Fisher, and The […]

Over the past 10 years, Fruition have worked their tails off to be where they are today. This isn’t just music, this isn’t just a band; this is hard work, determination, and passion. This is a community they have built full of love and support. They have come a long way; from busking on the […]

Although I was late to the opening set (Mikey Thunder/Jordan Polovina), the half that I witnessed featured mostly downtempo, soothing tracks along with some signature freestyles from Jordan. One highlight of the set was a beatbox-scratch session from the duo that really displayed the two’s musical connection. Their timing was perfect and Jordan’s lightning fast […]

It was chilly on Red River when I arrived in Austin Saturday night. Walking up to Stubb’s, I noticed a distinct lack of people milling about outside. I thought to myself there’s no way Austin wouldn’t turn out for a bluegrass show. The last time I had seen Yonder Mountain was several years ago […]
