DIY /// Strawberry, Sugar & Oatmeal Scrub

Composed by Mary Jo Sparks

///I’ve got major love for anything DIY, especially when it comes to my skin. I’ve battled long and hard with my skin issues, and I have several other friends in similar boats. It’s pretty rare for me to find anything on the shelves that can actually avoid irritating my skin with harsh exfoliates or drying it out completely.

Which brings me to why I’m sharing my skin recipes with you! I’ve got a thing for scrubs, and I’ve stored a ton of recipes over the years. I can’t wait to start unloading them for you guys to use and love. They’re simple yet effective, and have ingredients that are more than likely already in your kitchen (BONUS!) This one is my new favorite, and smells so good you have to stop yourself from eating it.

WHY IT WORKS

Did you know that strawberries are considered a superfood because of their incredible nutritional value? They’re particularly fond of your skin, and carry a ton of things that aid in it’s upkeep. Packed with antioxidants, vitamins A, C and E, these are all praised for their wonderful attributes. Just with strawberries alone, you’ve got a skin toner, redness reducer, and collagen builder in one delicious package.

Sugar is an awesome exfoliant, I recommend using brown sugar as it’s the softest on the skin. It also helps retain your skin’s moisture.

There’s a reason oatmeal is one of the only breakfast foods you can smear on your face. It’s A M A Z I N G! Of course, it’s got a good enough reputation to be considered a superfood as well. Oatmeal is particularly awesome for skin scrubs because of it’s ability to get rid of dead cells, redness and relieves dryness. Carrying a high level of healthy, lubricating fats, it makes one of the best moisturizers and noticeably makes skin softer. It also contains saponins, a natural cleanser, that removes dirt, oil and other toxins from the skin.

After doing this scrub, I immediately noticed a difference in my skin’s tone and elasticity. It’s crazy seeing your skin literally glow. It was awesome doing first thing in the morning, giving you a refreshed and energized start to the day.

Enjoy! Be sure to try it out and let us know how it works for you! :) I’ll be posting a lot more of these, so stay tuned.
