It was chilly on Red River when I arrived in Austin Saturday night. Walking up to Stubb’s, I noticed a distinct lack of people milling about outside. I thought to myself there’s no way Austin wouldn’t turn out for a bluegrass show. The last time I had seen Yonder Mountain was several years ago […]

I had barreled down I-35 to Austin thinking I was running late only to arrive to an empty venue. Emo’s had opened its doors at 7pm, but the opener, Austin’s own Cloudchord, wasn’t slated to start until 9. It wasn’t surprising to find Cloudchord there. In fact, I expected it. Having seen him earlier this […]

It’s the month of Halloween, and the 13th just happens to land perfectly on a Friday. How’s that for a spooky treat? For Houstonites, this month’s Friday-the-Thirteenth delivers two perfect acts to balance all things superstitious and unlucky! Australian act Rufus du Sol is coming back three years after their first album with a fuller, […]

A few weeks ago, I had the pleasure of sitting down with Austin’s own Electro Tribe a.k.a Trouble in the Streets. This trio composed of Nnedi Nebula Agbaroji (Keys/Vocals), Bobby Snakes (Drums) and Andy Leonard (Bass) is taking the Austin scene by storm with their funky spin on a blend of World, Hip-Hop, Electronic, R&B and Funk. These three are a […]

Way out amidst the forested hills of the Texas countryside, something was brewing. The heat of the day was beginning to abate as the sun came down, and a family clad in bathing suits walked away from Whitewater as I pulled in. In addition to the amphitheater, Whitewater is also home to Whitewater Sports, where […]

After taking in such a monstrous lineup, you’d be surprised to learn that 2017 will mark only the second year of Sound on Sound Fest. Who says newcomers can’t knock the big boys from the top? Their inaugural year was executed effortlessly, even when the fest was met with mother nature’s rainy wrath. Walker Margin, the A […]

It feels like just yesterday that Slightly Stoopid’s 2017 summer tour announcement lit up my live music radar. It was a chilly winter morning, and warm as those fresh Texas tour dates were, summer felt so far away. Then I wake up and it’s the end of July – and Slightly Stoopid is pulling up […]

The number of music festivals coming out of the woodwork is insane – and it’s easy to get disillusioned by the same lineup repeats. Sound on Sound stands high above the ranks in this category, because they’ve just unveiled THE sexiest lineup we’ve seen in years. If an appearance by indie masters Yeah Yeah Yeahs […]
