There are always a few artists that, for one reason or another, I never get the opportunity to see – I’m usually out of town and kicking myself in the ass for it. After years of missing Yahtzel’s performances, I was pretty stoked to see he’d be rolling through the Black Box this past week. […]

Lion’s Lair is a fairly unassuming venue in its space and overall demeanor, matching the stylings of common east Colfax dives, but what set Lion’s Lair apart on this particular night is that they played […]

When you have a crowd of Cinco de Mayo revelers on the dance floor, it’s bound to be a shitshow – and last Friday at The Black Box was the best kind of shitshow you could ask for. With Jantsen as our headliner of the night, there was still plenty of time to down tequila […]

A return to the ‘smart heavy’ sound indeed – with ‘MEAT’, Sounds like Words have crafted a blistering, solid collection of songs, and the end result is an intelligently polished debut. Each song is infused with aggressive guitar leads, thick percussions and pure conviction. Sounds like Words display their sharp affinity for rapid metal riffs […]
