Last night, the City of Roses welcomed electronic duo The Knocks and disco-house band Cannons with a sold-out room for their co-headlining Roseland Theater stop. As the second to last show date on tour, both acts delivered a flood of infectious energy that provided fuel for a bouncing crowd all night long.
Cannons, an electronic synthwave band from Los Angeles, opened the night by immediately activating the dancefloor with their well-loved amorous pop sounds. Made up of singer Michelle Joy, guitarist Ryan Clapham, keyboard/bassist Paul Davis and touring drummer Ben Hilzinger, Cannons exudes pure 70’s disco vibes and their live presence lived up to this reputation. Within moments of hitting the stage, Michelle Joy sealed the deal as the evening star. Her styling and makeup were out of this world, rocking a monochromatic silver ensemble topped off with shimmering evening gloves and chunky glitter eyeshadow. Cannons stole the show with their heart aching melodies, captivating rhythms and sweet vocals, giving us a perfectly dreamy live house set. Set highlights included ‘Golden’, ‘Evening Star’, ‘Hurricane’, and ‘Fire For You’ among others.
The Knocks have sustained a dedicated following over their past decade plus of music. The duo consists of Ben ‘B-Rock’ Ruttner and James ‘JPatt’ Patterson, who have been collaborating since they met in New York City in 2007.
Their vast catalog of eclectic stylings mean you can expect to hear any possible song reworked into an insatiable dance-heavy track. Even during intermission, fans stayed near the stage, dancing in place to the interval music to avoid losing their preferred spots before showtime. The Knocks delivered just the Saturday night hype everyone was looking for, churning out high energy dance tracks with relentless bass and pulsing beats, pulling heavily from their latest album, HISTORY.
