The most essential part of having an effective detox bath is to sweat. Toxins build up within the body and sweating them out is one of the most potent ways to release them. Sweating rids the body of salt, alcohol and heavy metals. Raising the temperature of your body also produces more white blood cells, which sweating does as well. Just by submerging yourself into hot water, your body begins working to relieve excess bloating, strengthen your immune system, and ultimately, relaxes your muscles and lowers stress.

Implementing the use of powdered or grated ginger increases your body’s temperature, causing you to sweat profusely within minutes of lying yourself in the tub. Even for up to thirty minutes afterwards, your body will still be producing high heat, so make sure you wear a bathrobe or ‘breath-able’ clothing when getting out. Paired together, the hot bath and seeped ginger will work wonders on your body’s immune system, detoxifying and leaving you feeling rejuvenated and refreshed the morning after!

NOTE: If you are taking anti-coagulants, consult your doctor before ginger.

GET TO IT

After drawing a nice, hot bath, you’ll pour 2-3 tablespoons of powdered or grated ginger into the water before slipping in. Soak for about twenty minutes, and seriously: be prepared to SWEAT. Bring some ice cold drinking water with you to have by the tub, and keep your bathroom door open to allow air flow. If you’d like, add epsom salts to the water as well. This will help even more with relaxing tense and sore muscles, and also restores magnesium and sulfates to the body as well.
