Austin City Limits has been a big deal for a while now, bringing out the big guns year after year for the fall concert event at Austin’s Zilker Park. But late last night, I heard some serious news:
ACL announced the 2017 lineup – and Gorillaz have top billing.
Having recently dropped their newest album, Humanz, Gorillaz are touring heavily this year. In the US, they will be playing a slew of concerts and festivals that also include Outside Lands in California, The Meadows in New York and Life is Beautiful in Nevada.
Of course, Gorillaz won’t be the only ones at ACL this year. Topping the list alongside Gorillaz are Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Killers and Chance the Rapper.
And the list goes on. Hidden deeper in the lineup are some real gems – namely the chillout sensation Bonobo and feel-good funk outfit Vulfpeck. And if dance music is more your thing, they have ZHU, Rüfüs Du Sol and Martin Garrix – or one of my personal favorite peculiarities, Crystal Castles.
Austin City Limits is going to be particularly great this year, especially with the rare chance to see everybody’s favorite virtual band live. And let’s not forget, Gorillaz have collaborated with so many top shelf artists over the years – from Danger Mouse and Snoop Dogg to Lou Reed and Bobby Womack – who knows what friends they may bring to the party?
