The co-headline that dreams are made of.
Dance music lovers were united in an evening of pure sweat, fun and groove on Sunday night in Portland, packing out the Moda Center for the hottest tour of the year. Kaytranada and Justice have only just gotten started on what will be a very limited 13 date coast to coast stadium tour, and with the amount of staggering production, massive design and meticulous lighting details, fans are scrambling in anticipation for their chance to catch a show.
Opening up the sold out night was Sam Gellaitry, a Scottish producer who first made waves with his minimalist, trap beat productions on Soundcloud around 2014, which is the same time I also became familiar with Kaytranada. Gellaitry set the perfect vibe for the night with an upbeat, electronic pop DJ set, getting the crowd locked in, dancing, swirling, and smiling. Upon descending from the ceiling in a circular stage akin to a spaceship, Kaytranada wasted no time going heavy on his disco funk catalogue while also sharing tracks from his new project with Portland rapper Amine, Kaytraminé. Blending in Haitian and Caribbean funk, his dance moves were contagious, with the crowd adjusting their bodies to match the pace.
The Moda Center transformed into another completely different world as Justice took the stage, the two members flanked by their iconic, signature Marshall walls, stationed at their controls. The intricacy of the lighting that pulsated in time, flashing, dancing and illuminating the track lighting throughout the stadium, made for a true spectacle. In a world where even the most dedicated music lover can be disappointed by a stadium show, this was the one of the best performances I’ve ever seen. Never, and I repeat – ever. Miss. A. Justice. Show.
Leave it to Justice and Kaytranada to change the game and reignite the dancefloor wherever it may be, stadiums and all.
