Game Changer Wrestling made their debut in Portland, OR this weekend with a stacked bill featuring matches with Masha Slamovich, Jordan Oliver in his return to GCW, “Emo Queen” Brooke Havok, Mance Warner, and so, so many more insanely talented wrestlers. There was a double main event, featuring Maki Itoh challenging EFFY for the GCW World Championship and Jimmy Lloyd challenging Matt Tremont for the GCW Ultraviolent Championship.
Hawthorne Theater was packed with a blood-thirsty crowd, literally chanting “We want blood!” at multiple points throughout the night. The fans wanted blood and GCW delivered. In the double main event alone there were several bloody bodies strewn across the ring. That’s not even counting the several matches before that left wrestlers bloodied and battered and barely able to walk through the curtain. Nobody does ultraviolence quite like GCW and they delivered to a crowd that made the quaint Hawthorne Theater feel like a sold out arena.

Whether it was TNA Knockout Champion Masha Slamovich brutalizing Miyu Yamashita or the Megasaurus, AEW’s own Megan Bayne clobbering C4 with the help of Joey Janela, the fans got more than their money’s worth in GCW’s debut in Portland. Every match was so exciting and engaging that the crowd noise never really quieted for the entire evening. Everyone gave star-caliber performances that should guarantee them spots in future shows.
EFFY vs. Maki Itoh was a standout, as The Cutest In The Fucking World challenged queer icon EFFY for the GCW World Championship. While she ultimately couldn’t pin EFFY for the 3-count, she proved once again why she’s a worldwide attraction. Maki’s signature pizza cutter did slice open the founder of EFFY’s Big Gay Brunch though, sending the crowd into a bloodlust frenzy.
The GCW Ultraviolent Championship was on the line to close out the show and reigning champion Matt Tremont had to put Jimmy Lloyd through a panel of glass to secure his victory. By the end of the night, the mat was blood-soaked, glass and barbed wire were everywhere and the fans couldn’t have asked for a better way to welcome GCW to Portland.
