BALTHVS in Portland, Oregon: Groovy, Spaced Out Colombian Funk [Show Review + Photos]

BALTHVS in Portland, Oregon at The Get Down

The Get Down has become synonymous with hosting a wide spectrum of talent, from kiki balls and community fundraisers to themed dance party nights and stand-up comics. But that doesn’t mean their live music curation is second to mind – The Get Down actually boasts the best concert calendar in Portland. Whether it’s a tantalizing emerging act to a band on the verge of opening arenas, a night of musical fulfillment is a guarantee at this beautiful, well-run venue.

BALTHVS, pronounced bôl + thŭs, are a three piece psychedelic funk band from Colombia. Selling out their last Portland show earlier in the year, the band was greeted by a packed out room at The Get Down on Friday night. Made up of guitarist Balthazar Aguirre, bassist Johanna Mercuriana and drummer Santiago Lizcano, the synergy between the trio is undeniable – the three members exude passion and excitement for their craft. Though the band has cemented their abilities as leading musicians through their extensive discography since 2020, it seems that the rest of the world is finally catching on.

Blending global soundscapes that flowed through cumbia, disco, surf rock and psychedelic grooves, BALTHVS guided the crowd into a high energy, captivating dance party from their very first song through the incredible finale. If you haven’t yet, please give BALTHVS unique catalogue a listen, and don’t miss out on their next stop near you. By 2025, we strongly believe this band will be less likely to perform at smaller venues, so now is your chance to catch the wave!
