The Funk Hunters release their long awaited debut album, Typecast, via Westwood Recordings | March 26th, 2018 [New Music Monday]

Vancity duo The Funk Hunters have blessed our ears with their long-awaited debut album, Typecast, officially released on Friday, March 23rd. I’ve seen the Funk Hunters dozens of times in different forms – featuring Chali 2na, live bands, and solo DJ sets, so I’ve become a big fan of their versatility. At one of their shows, you can go from body rockin’ bass into old school hip-hop slow grooves within a few minutes, and the Funk Hunters execute these transitions with ease. After years of putting in the work to establish themselves throughout Canada and beyond, they’ve kept clubs bouncing for days after their sets, and all of that unique energy has been captured on ‘Typecast’. It’s been ten long years of hunting the funk, and the debut is incredibly well worth the wait – what else would you expect from Shambhala’s most well loved veterans?

Glittering with hand-picked special guests, Typecast boasts vibrant bass-fueled party beats and soulful productions in one intricate package.  ‘Typecast’ does a fine job of encompassing all of their styles in an upbeat flow. My personal highlight was hearing the resurgence of older, never-released tracks like ‘Soul City’ – it had me smiling wide with feel-good recognition. Pumped out via Funk Hunter Nick Middleton’s label, Westwood Recordings, you can score the album on vinyl, digital or stream.
