5 Reasons Why Mamby on the Beach is Chicago’s Premier Summer Festival July 2nd-3rd, 2016 [Event Preview]

As the year starts to heat up there might be no better place to be than Chicago. With a food or street festival on every block and a music festival every other weekend, there is no shortage of summer time fun in the Windy City. While it may seem overwhelming, there is one event where one can catch everything a summer day in the city has to offer.

After a successful inaugural year, Mamby on the Beach is back for the second edition of its beachfront music festival held at Oakwood Beach on Chicago’s south side during Independence Day weekend. With an eclectic lineup featuring an assortment of house, electro pop, and Hip-Hop that spans across several sandy lakefront stages, here at least five reasons why Mamby on the Beach is Chicago’s best summer music festival:

The View
Mamby stakes claim to one of the newest beaches in Chicago. Oakwood Beach is located on the southern edge of the city that offers a stunning and unique view of the brilliant skyline. Just a quick trip from downtown where the festival will provide free shuttles from main transit stations. There will also be free bike parking on-site for those who want to cruise up and down the lakefront.

Workshops, Yoga Sessions, and Volleyball
Expect much more than music out of this festival. Expanding on efforts from last year there will be amazing art structures, on-site art and graffiti, tarot/palm reading, as well as the Beach Battle Royale Water Fight. Health and wellness workshops and as silent disco yoga sessions will also be held daily. VIP attendees have water access and can party in Lake Michigan, enjoy elevated viewing or enjoy a cocktail instead of beer. Arrive early enough and get the squad together for a beach volleyball match before the headliner.

Food and Snacks

Another thing that sets Chicago apart from any other city is its food. While dancing under the summer sun all afternoon can take a toll on the body, patrons can refuel with some of the city’s food favorites at Mamby’s PICNIC area. An array of food options will be available including gourmet grilled cheese from Cheesie’s, beach side seafood delights at Da Lobsta Roll, and savory fried chicken from Harold’s Wings. There will be additional options such as barbeque, coffee, and ice cream, to name a few, leaving it easy for anyone to arrive at lunch and stay for the midnight snack.

DJ Tent
While Mamby on the Beach has done a good job diversifying the lineup, it is still a Chicago music festival and the festival made sure to keep to its dance music roots. All weekend long the DJ Tent will be pumping out House music from a number of DJ’s who frequent Chicago’s clubs and night life. Local names like Inphinity and Derrick Carter will be joined by Loco Dice, The Martinez Brothers and Steve Bug under the protective covering of the lakeside tent. A place to escape the sun for a bit while getting a healthy dose of dance music.

Lineup
In its second year, “Mamby on the Beach” has once again formulated a genre-bending lineup. With names like Milky Chance, Atmosphere, Chet Faker and Santigold gracing the headlining spots it’s clear that Mamby has included everything from R&B and Hip-Hop to electro pop and dance music as it stakes claim to being Chicago’s premier summer festival. The sunny vibe stricken lineup also includes Chromeo, Animal Collective, Tycho and Lupe Fiasco. A truly unique and musically diverse lineup that offers what is stacking up to be a perfect soundtrack for a holiday weekend escape.
