Undersaturated Presents: Phutureprimitive + Govinda + BRANX + Technicolor Lenses in New York 06.12.2014

The launch of Undersaturated Presents blessed NYC this past Thursday, with an impressive lineup including Brooklyn natives Technicolor Lenses, Low Temp label star BRANX, and Austin born violinist Govinda, with headlining psymbient artist Phutureprimitive. Needless to say, Highline Ballroom swayed all night long with captivating beats, and the crowd came together in celebration of such a magical performance. If you came to the party alone, you left with family.

Technicolor Lenses opened the night with their intelligent and entrancing lyrics. Jackson Whalan, rapper for Technicolor Lenses, spoke to me briefly about the immense amount of work that the group had been putting into this new album. The group provoked emotion and connectivity through their beautiful words so I’d say their hard work has definitely paid off!

BRANX brought the funk hard – like a magnet, bodies were pulled to the dance floor, moving and grooving to the delicious stylings of Lowtemp’s own. Formally DCarls, the amount of progression this artist has made in the past year is unbelievable. The set created a vibe unlike any other from the night putting smiles on everyone’s faces as they proceeded to get DOWN.

After a short intermission, the lights dimmed and Govinda took the stage. His mesmerizing violin solos hung in the air as people stood in awe. Sensual vocals rested perfectly on soft beats that just made you want to move. Standing right in the middle of the dance floor, you could feel the echo of the strings resonate in your chest.

To complete the night, Phutureprimitive unleashed his unique brand of minimalistic psydub. His enchanting performer Cali, beautiful as always, led the room in a primal passionate dance. The most impressive part of his set was his complete control over the audience. He began with some heavier bass, hyping the crowd up just to slow it back down with his remix of ‘Mad World’, only to hype it back up again. By the end of his set, friends were huddled standing on couches, tables, stairs anything they could to see and establish a personal connection him. It was truly the most moving live set I have seen by him yet.

All in all, to have such amazing artists gathered together for one show was a wonderful gift and I think there are big things to be expected from Undersaturated Events. You’ll also be able to catch Technicolor Lenses, Govinda, and Phutureprimitive at FARM Music Fest in New Jersey late July!
